After reviewing the different restaurants and their menus, I decided on 藝yì by Jereme Leung for their Dim Sum that is only served during lunch. As part of the Raffles Hotel Singapore – The Suite Life Staycation deal, guests were entitled to 15% discount when they dine at any of the Raffles Hotel restaurants during the stay.

First Impression

Once we went through the front doors, the decoration was totally unexpected for a Chinese restaurant. It was very whimsical with the various dollies of butterflies and flowers cascading down from the ceiling. Walking through that tunnel of paper garden felt like there was a nice surprise waiting at the end.

The ceiling at the main dining area was very interesting too. According to the staff, it’s supposed to represent clouds. I thought they looked like umbrellas. The photo doesn’t do it much justice as it’s a lot nicer and doesn’t look that dark.

The plates were very beautiful and added to the ambience. I couldn’t wait to taste the dishes.

We started with a jug of Yi’s Herbal Tea (S$18). It was quite refreshing but too sweet for us, so we asked for some ice to add on and lessen the sweetness.

I ordered 7 Dim Sum dishes and 2 types of noodles, which based on experience should be enough for lunch.

Har Kau Shrimp Dumpling with Black Garlic (3 pieces S$9)

藝yì by Jereme Leung

This was the first Dim Sum served. My Mum and I both took a piece and our first bite resulted in an explosion of flavours totally unexpected. The Har Kau was full of Umami flavours. The Black Garlic gave it an extra taste boost that blended very well with the juicy prawn filling.

Most of the time when we eat Dim Sum, I am the one having to finish up the extra piece in each Dim Sum basket. But not this time. My Mum liked it so much, she gladly took the last piece of Har Kau. I had to concede defeat.

The scrumptious Har Kau built up my expectation for the rest of the Dim Sum dishes and most did not disappoint.

Steamed Dumplings Stuffed with Porcini Mushrooms & Braised Bok Choy Dumplings (3 pieces S$9)

藝yì by Jereme LeungThe name is rather misleading as it sounded like there were 2 types of dumplings in this Dim Sum. No, there’s only 1 type which was filled with the Porcini Mushroom and the Braised Bok Choy. This dumpling was very tasty too and didn’t have the musty mushroom flavour that some other places have. Again, there was that Umami taste. The fillings were piping hot.

Freshly-made Rice Rolls served with Poached Chicken & Spicy Sichuan Sesame Dressing (S$10)

Poached Chicken Rice RollWhen this was served, it looked a little disappointing as it was just Poached Chicken placed on top of the rice rolls with some peanuts sprinkled around and a side of the Spicy Sichuan Sesame Dressing. We asked the staff not to pour the chilli dressing over the dish as we weren’t sure if we’d like it. Once the Spicy Sichuan Sesame Dressing was mixed with the chicken and rice rolls, everything came together into a tasty dish. My Mum liked the Spicy Sichuan Sesame Dressing over the chilli sauce that they served for the Dim Sum. The rice rolls were nice and smooth, so I decided to add in an order of rice rolls with tiger prawns.

Siew Mai Dumplings with Sakura Shrimp, Pork & Seafood (3 pieces S$9)

藝yì by Jereme LeungThe Siew Mai Dumplings were so fat and rounded like Bu Dao Ong (不倒翁 – Roly Poly Toy), bursting with Umami fillings. I really like the meat and seafood filling as there was no hint of flour mixed into the fillings. Easily the best Siew Mai I’ve tasted, and my Mum agreed as well.
