About Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari

I’d booked a stay at Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari as we wanted to be close to Jogasaki Coast. It turned out to be a good location as we had to shift our Jogasaki Coast visit to the day after our stay and we were still close by.

It was a little difficult to spot Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari as the building was located slightly below road level. We overshot the turning and only realised when the GPS showed us moving away.

Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari owners were very friendly people. They brought us up to the room and showed us around some of the shared facilities. We had booked the Western Style Twin Room which was a decent size and beds were okay. There was an attached toilet to our room.

When we got there, the owners told us that we were lucky as they were providing free dinner that night. We didn’t eat dinner there, but saw other guests eating and it looked just okay. If I recalled correctly, think it was some table grilled food, though smelled oily.

What I like about the lodging:

Pretty good value as it covered breakfast for 2 pax as well. Breakfast was decent with quite a bit of stuff to eat and you get a choice of eggs. We were introduced to this Chocolate Straw where regular milk changed to Chocolate Milk as you drink it through the straw. (We only got photos of the Chocolate Straw, guess that was the most memorable thing during the stay.)

What I wish it could improve on:

There was an oily smell around the lodging as the ground floor was an American style restaurant. Cafe Be seemed to be a popular hangout for the locals. Guess we were lucky we were there in Spring and weather was still too cool to sit outside for long. If it was summer, the bar would have been in full swing with patrons sitting outside and noisy at night.

There was also a musty smell around the room and living area. We took a peek at the shared bath area and had second thoughts about using it. It didn’t look too inviting and there were mould patches.

If you’re not too particular and just want a cheap place to stay, Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari is about 10mins drive away from Jogasaki Picnical Course.
